Sir/Madam: Minimum wage jobs

Sir/Madam: Minimum wage jobs should be entry level positions and/or positions for people needing part time work. These jobs were not meant to be, nor should they be, jobs that support a family. Tragically, too many people in this country are not educated and do not have the necessary skills to rise above a minimum wage job. And, it's apparent that our schools are more interested in sports and other social activities than they are in promoting the value of an education. One needs only to read any local paper to get a sense that sports are the most important activity going on in the schools. Just as tragic is the apathy of too many parents. There is little, if any, interest making sure children get a good basic education. Too many parents are looking for the next SUPER-STAR. This part of the country has plenty of jobs associated with the gas industry. Too many of these go unfilled because of lack of skills or lack of interest in having to work hard. There are parts of this country that have plenty of high paying jobs with no labor pool. In too many cases, working a minimum wage job is a choice. Rather than getting a high school education and/or some trade school training, it's easier to flip a burger, live at home and hang out with the crowd. Raising the minimum wage is kicking the can down the road. Low minimum wage jobs are not the issue. And, businesses will find a way to get the job done with fewer people.
