Edward Smith Edward Smith Edward Bruce “Bill” Smith, 82, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018 at his home in Lake Alfred, Florida. Bill was born to Sterl and Elizabeth “Betty” Smith on July 15, 1936 in Mosherville, PA. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Ruth Ann Sands Smith; his son, David Randy Smith, and his brother, Richard “Dick” Smith.

Bill is survived by his two sisters, Mabel (William “Bill”) Gamble and Marie (John) Decker; his children, Shelia Wood, Julia (Malik) Rohman, Audrey (Stephen) Thompson, Denise (Jeff Strickland) Henning, Elaine (Gary) Erb, Edward (Barbara) Henning, Laurie Uhl, and Pamela (Stan Muraszko) Cobb, as well as 12 grandchildren and 21 greatgrandchildren. He will also be missed by Jake (especially his morning milk and donut treats).

Bill was a retired truck driver who taught all nine children to drive. After retirement, he worked part-time as a courier for the Polk County Health Department. He loved steam engines and turning junk into treasure. He grew roses, so Ruth would always have fresh flowers on her table. They enjoyed going to the beach and the Strawberry Festival every year to see Charley Pride.

Bill was initiated into Winter Haven Lodge No. 186 in 1991, serving as Worshipful Master there in 1995. He affiliated with Travelers Lodge No. 390 in Lake Alfred in 2010, serving as Worshipful Master in 2012. Brother Smith had been a Master Mason for 27 years. Bill was a past president of the Kentucky Colonels.

Funeral services were held Nov. 4 in Winter Haven. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice at 105 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, FL 33823.
