Floyd Robinson

August 10, 2018

Floyd Kent Robinson, 95, well-known life-long resident of South Hill, Orwell Township, PA, passed away with his family by his side Friday afternoon, Aug. 10, 2018 at his home. With the loving help of family and devoted caregivers, Floyd was able to remain in his home.

He was born at home on the family farm in Orwell Township on Jan. 27, 1923, the son of Clarence Linus Robinson and Olive Pettes Robinson.

After graduating from both the Orwell High School and the LeRaysville High School in 1940, as was customary at the time, Floyd continued working on the family Maple Century Farm with his father and remained dedicated to assisting his family during the difficult World War II years, as his older brothers Fenton and Curtis served our country in the military forces. His responsibilities in the operation of the farm prevented him from physically attending college, however, with the desire for knowledge and self-improvement, he continued his education through correspondence courses and also remained an active reader throughout his lifetime.

On Oct. 22, 1945, Floyd married the former Ethel Chilson in Newfoundland, PA. He remained active in farming with the assistance of his family until retiring in 2003. While operating the farm, Floyd also worked as a carpenter, drove school bus, grew and sold strawberries, raspberries and homemade maple syrup. In addition to his vast berry crop, Floyd also enjoyed growing vegetables for his family and shared a portion of his harvest by donating to TACO to assist those in need.

Floyd was a member of the Herrickville United Methodist Church where he formerly served as a Sunday school teacher, as well as in other capacities, and for the past few years had attended the Wysox Presbyterian Church with his daughter, Loretta. He also enjoyed cooking and baking goods which he shared at dinners held at the Wysox Church.

During 1967-68, Floyd and his family created “Robinson’s Pond” on his property, a beautiful pristine local landmark which is enjoyed by family and friends to present. He served as a director for the Northeast Bradford School District for 33 years, as an advisory board member for the Farm and Home Administration and as caretaker for the South Hill Cemetery for many years.

Floyd and Ethel treasured wonderful memories of family gatherings, square dancing together, playing cards and games and socializing with their friends.

Floyd’s family includes his children, Clifford F. Robinson and wife, Linda, Walter C. Robinson and wife, Sandra, Elton D. Robinson and wife, Patti, Milton G. Robinson and wife, Cindy, all of South Hill, Loretta S. Stevens and husband, Jim of Macedonia; grandchildren, Sean (Becky) Robinson, Christie Robinson (JR Rought), David Robinson, Nicole (Randy) Greeno, Caleb (Helen) Eastman, Matthew Robinson, Jacob Robinson, Timothy (Jen) Matoushek, Tina (Pat) Maynard, Jeremy (Becky) Robinson, Shannon (Tommy) Gorman, Lance (Holly) Stevens and Lynette Stevens; 21 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Janet Chilson of South Hill and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Robinson; stepmother, Christine Chilson Robinson; brothers and sisters in-law, Fenton L. and Lois Robinson and Curtis and Bette Robinson.

The family will receive friends Friday, Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to noon with a funeral service to follow at noon at the Wysox Presbyterian Church. Officiating the service will be Rev. Robert Martin and Mr. Ed O’Connor. Interment will be in the South Hill Cemetery, Orwell Township.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions may be directed to the Northeast Bradford Education Fund, 526 Panther Lane, Rome, PA 18837 in memory of Floyd Kent Robinson. The Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Avenue, Towanda, is assisting the Robinson Family with arrangements.
